Blog 25: Mentorship

Literal-

mentorship log
Erin Apregan-- (805) 807-3319

Interpretive-
I gained perseverance from my mentorship with Erin. It wasn't that I never wanted to give up, but she never let me and then eventually instead of her telling me to keep going, I started telling myself to keep going. I learned how to lose weight the healthy way because before her lifestyle change, Erin lost weight the un-healthy way by throwing up or not eating at all. She showed me how to steer clear of that path and persevere on in my weight loss.

Applied-
Erin and I mostly worked out and that made me realize that working out is definitely not as important as having a healthy diet. A healthy diet resulted in the most effective weight loss and I honestly believe that my workout sessions were not as impactive to my weight loss as my diet was.

2. My contact is my mentor, Erin.
3. So far, I have completed 58 hours with Erin.
4. We met every other Saturday for at least 2 hours. The two hours consisted of a training session focusing on where I thought I needed the most help (i.e. cardio, abs, arms, etc.)

Literal (Need to Know)
  • Is a low calorie diet better than a low carb diet?
  • How do I get over a sudden halt in weight loss?
  • How do I conquer my food cravings?
  • What type of exercise is best? (cardio or weight training)

Interpretive

I think the most important thing I learned from Erin was that it is never too late to lose weight. She showed me how to take care of my body again when I wasn't even sure that it was possible. She gave me hope that someday I won't have to shop at the plus size stores. She gave me my life back and I am so thankful. She taught me to look past the sudden halts in weight loss and told me to keep trying.

Applied

My time with Erin really set weight loss as my senior project. I know that there is no time like the present to lose weight and I think that I can do a lot with weight loss as my senior topic. I already have science projects in my head on weight loss, and I have never been more excited to get started on a project! I have already lost 25+ pounds in less than a month and I have no plans to slow down now.
